OSHA 10 Safety Information
Effective
July 1, 2006, Massachusetts enforced a
law that required all contractors,
subcontractors and employees thereof be
trained in an OSHA approved 10 hour
training program as follows:
“The
Employer has to furnish documentation
that all employees have to have
completed the course at the time they
begin to work. Section 2 of the law
states that, "Any person submitting a
bid for, or signing a contract to work
on, the construction, re-construction,
alteration, remodeling or repair of any
public work by the commonwealth, or
political subdivision thereof, or by any
county, city, town, district, or housing
authority, and estimated by the awarding
authority to cost more than $10,000, and
any person submitting a bid for, or
signing a contract to work on, the
construction, reconstruction,
installation, demolition, maintenance or
repair of any building by a public
agency estimated to cost more than
$10,000, shall certify on the bid, or
contract, under penalties of perjury, as
follows: " .... (2) that all employees
to be employed at the worksite will have
successfully completed a course in
construction safety and health approved
by the United States Occupational Safety
and Health Administration that is at
least 10 hours in duration at the time
the employee begins work and who shall
furnish documentation of successful
completion of said course with the first
certified payroll report for each
employee"
The
Contractor and all its subcontractors
shall furnish to the Owner, with the
first certified payroll report,
documentation indicating that each
employee has successfully completed 10
hours of a course in construction safety
and health. This course must be approved
by the United States Occupational Health
and Safety Administration (OSHA)”
We have
found two reliable sources to obtain
training and would like to pass along
that information to you for your
employees
We have
found the OSHA-accredited website
www.360training.com to be a convenient
and economical way to obtain your
certification. Once on the 360training
website, click on the OSHA 10-hour
course that is for the construction
industry. The website allows you to
choose a user i.d. and password so that
you can log on and off if sitting in
front of the computer for the duration
of the course is not possible. The
course is a power point presentation
with quizzes at the end of each topic
that must be passed with a 70% or better
before you can proceed to the next
segment.
Once the
online course is completed, a
certificate will be ready for printing.
You will also receive a yellow OSHA card
within two months of completing the
on-line course. You must carry this card
at all times when you are on any
Waterline jobsite.
We have
also found AGC Safety and Construction
Services located in Wellesley,
Massachusetts to be an additional source
of “live” training for those who may not
be computer savvy or who would just
rather attend a one day seminar to
achieve their certification. Log onto
www.agcmass.org and click on
events to find dates for OSHA ten hour
training. |
